Tours, unique cinemas, historic architecture, galleries, murals by Jenny Kee and talented young artists, the old Victory theatre antique/coffee shop complex, little shops, atmospheric quality cafs and restaurants etc

·         Take a tour of some sites in the upper mountains on the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus.

·         Experience the charm of Mt Vic Flicks, a beautifully restored, intimate, old time regional cinema showing the latest or most interesting movies. Wriggle down into the deep red velvet seats and see the velvet curtains roll back. Amble over to the little shop in the wall next to the seating area.
Great choc-tops, lolly bags and hot drinks in deep mugs (real ones - ecofriendly!) at the counter next to the screen at intermission. You'll love it!

·         Or try The Edge - the MaxVision theatre experience in Katoomba - a giant multi-storey screen with repeat screenings of breathtaking footage of the Mountains and a program of the latest films.

·         Shunt down the valley on the Zig-Zag Railway - complete with boiler attendants, choo-choo sounds and howling whistle overhead and the rich aroma of a coal-fired engine up front.

·         The Scenic Skyway in Katoomba - ride the cable car across the valley, or the scenic railway that puts a whole new meaning into the word "steep".

·         Visit the grand old Hydro Majestic at Medlow Bath for a meal or a coffee break.

·         Try the refurbished Carrington at Katoomba for a yesteryear experience with a glass of wine or your favourite brew, or for a coffee break.

·         Jenolan Caves is about a 40 minute drive from Avonmore Cottages. Look out for the classical music concerts in the Caves.

·         Historic Hartley - wander the old hand-hewn sandstone buildings whose shiny worn entrances speak of the passing of many footsteps in days gone by. Sit with your lunch as the quiver grass and yellowed straw rustle in the westerly breeze.

·         Do the Gallery Walk between Stop Laughing this is Serious, Keith Rowe's Glass Art studio, and Gallery Blackheath.

·         Sample some of the many cafes, restaurants, gift shops, bookshops and antique stores.
